Under-Eye CO2 Laser: Why That Area Is Treated Differently

Under-eye CO2 laser is listed separately on our menu, at $800, rather than folded into general CO2 resurfacing. That is not a pricing quirk. It is because the area is genuinely different to treat.
The skin around the eye is not the same skin
The periorbital area — the skin around the eye socket — is among the thinnest on the body. It sits over a mobile, expressive part of the face, it has less structural support beneath it than the cheek, and it behaves differently to almost anything you do to it.
Treating it as though it were an extension of the rest of the face is the mistake. It needs its own settings, its own technique and its own aftercare.
Why people ask about it
The under-eye is one of the areas people notice first and mention most, often before anything else on the face bothers them. It is also an area where the underlying cause varies enormously between individuals — what looks superficially like the same concern in two people can have quite different origins.
That last point matters more than anything else here, because it determines whether this treatment is the right answer at all. Some under-eye concerns respond to resurfacing. Others do not, and would be better addressed some other way, or left alone. Your provider will tell you which conversation you are having.
What to expect
As with any CO2 treatment, plan for recovery. Your provider will give you specifics for your treatment, and you should ask for them plainly:
- How many days should I expect to look visibly treated?
- What can I not do during that period?
- When can I wear makeup again?
- What exactly does the aftercare involve?
Protecting the area from the sun afterwards is part of the treatment, not an afterthought.
It is not for everyone
We would rather say this clearly than have you find out at the appointment. The eye area is unforgiving, and there are people for whom this is not the right treatment — because of their skin, their history, their medications, or simply because the thing bothering them is not the thing this addresses.
If that is you, we will say so at consultation, and we will talk about what else might make sense. Our menu has a good deal on it that is gentler, and "nothing, for now" is also a legitimate recommendation.
Common questions
Will this get rid of dark circles?
It depends entirely on what is causing them, and causes differ between people. Some are amenable to resurfacing; others are structural or related to pigment and are not. That is exactly what the consultation determines — and the honest answer for some people is that this is not their treatment.
Is it more uncomfortable than CO2 elsewhere?
Your provider will discuss comfort measures. The area is more delicate, which is reflected in technique and in aftercare.
How long is the recovery?
Ask for a specific number of days for your plan. Do not schedule it near an event.
Can I have this at the same time as other facial treatment?
Sequencing matters. Tell your provider everything you are having done and they will advise.
Is it safe around the eye?
It is performed by a trained provider using settings chosen for that area, under the oversight of our medical director. Whether it is appropriate for *you* is the consultation question, and there are people for whom the answer is no.
What about makeup afterwards?
Your provider will tell you when you can return to it.
