Medically Supervised Weight Management

Marjorie Lantum, M.D.
A private consultation room

Weight management at Willow and Oak is $150–$550, planned individually, and requires a consultation with our medical provider.

What "medically supervised" is supposed to mean

The phrase gets used loosely. Here it means a licensed medical provider assesses you, forms a plan appropriate to you, and follows up. It does not mean a product sold over a counter with a sticker on it.

The distinction matters because weight management is an area with a long history of programmes that are neither medical nor supervised, and because the things that work are rarely the things that are easiest to sell.

Why the price is a range

Because plans differ. What is appropriate for one person is not appropriate for another, and the range on our menu reflects genuinely different plans rather than tiers of the same one.

You will know what your plan involves and what it costs before you commit.

What the consultation covers

Expect a proper medical conversation, including:

  • Your health history, in detail
  • Current medications and supplements — all of them
  • What you have tried before and how it went
  • Any relevant conditions
  • What you are actually hoping for, and over what timeframe

And expect your provider to be realistic with you in return. That may include saying that what you are asking for is not a safe target, or that something else should be addressed first, or that this is not the right service for you.

What we will not do

  • Guarantee an amount of weight lost, or a timeframe
  • Publish before-and-after photographs
  • Suggest this is easy, or fast, or permanent
  • Recommend a plan without assessing you first

If any of that reads as a low bar, compare it against the advertising in this category generally.

Follow-up is the actual service

The consultation is the beginning. Medically supervised means someone is still involved after the first appointment — monitoring, adjusting, and available when something is not working.

Ask what follow-up looks like before you start: how often, with whom, and what is included in the price. It is the part that distinguishes a medical programme from a purchase.

Questions worth asking any weight-management programme

Not just ours. If you are comparing options around Hendersonville, Gallatin or Nashville:

  • Who assesses me, and are they licensed?
  • What does the plan actually consist of?
  • What follow-up is included, how often, and with whom?
  • What is the total cost over the whole programme, not just to start?
  • What happens if it is not working?
  • What happens when I finish?

That last one matters more than people expect, and a programme with no answer to it is worth a second look.

Common questions

Is this a diet plan?

It is a medically supervised programme, assessed and monitored by a licensed provider. What your plan consists of is determined at consultation.

How quickly will I see results?

We are not going to give you a number. Anyone who does, before assessing you, is selling rather than treating.

Do I have to commit to a long programme up front?

Ask at consultation what the commitment is and what the total cost looks like. You should know both before you start.

Will you tell me if I do not need this?

Yes. That is a real possible outcome of a consultation and it is not a wasted appointment.

Can I combine it with other services here?

Tell your provider what else you are having done. They will advise on what makes sense together.

Is it covered by insurance?

Generally not. Ask us about cost and financing directly.
