Laser Hair Removal: Sessions, Cost and Timing

Laser hair removal at Willow and Oak starts at $75 for a small area, with package pricing given at consultation. Two things about it surprise people: it takes a course of sessions rather than one, and when you start matters.
Why it is a course, not an appointment
Hair does not all grow at once. At any given moment, the hairs in an area are at different points in their growth cycle, and laser hair reduction is most effective against hairs in the active growth phase.
One session therefore only ever addresses a proportion of what is there. Spacing treatments out over a series lets the laser catch hairs that were dormant the last time you came in. Your provider will tell you how many sessions to plan for and how far apart, based on the area and on you.
This is also why anyone promising complete removal in a single visit is overselling. The realistic framing is reduction over a course, and that is how we will describe it to you.
What drives the price
Price scales with the area being treated, which is why our menu says "from $75 (small area)" rather than quoting one number. A small area and a large one are different amounts of time and different amounts of work.
Because most people are having a course rather than a single session, ask about package pricing at your consultation — that is where it is worked out, and it is the number that actually matters to your budget.
Timing: why autumn and winter
Sun exposure interacts with laser treatment, both before and after, and your provider will give you specific guidance on it.
The practical consequence for anyone living on Old Hickory Lake: a course that starts in September or October runs through the cooler months and has you finished — or well along — before the boat comes out. Starting in June, when you are outdoors constantly, makes the aftercare harder to comply with.
This is one of the few genuinely seasonal pieces of scheduling advice in aesthetics, and it is worth acting on. We have written more about laser timing through the year.
Before your first session
Your provider will go through preparation with you. Expect questions about:
- Your medical history and any medications you are taking
- Recent sun exposure, and any planned holidays
- How you have been managing the hair up to now
- Any previous laser treatment and how your skin responded
Follow the preparation instructions you are given. They exist to make the treatment work and to keep it comfortable.
Common questions
How many sessions will I need?
Your provider will tell you at consultation. It depends on the area and on you, and anyone who gives you a number before looking is guessing.
Is it permanent?
We describe this as hair reduction, deliberately. Talk to your provider about what is realistic for you and about whether maintenance sessions are likely.
Does it hurt?
Most people find it very manageable. Your provider will describe the sensation and any comfort measures before you start.
Should I shave beforehand?
Follow the preparation instructions your provider gives you. They are specific and they matter to how well the session works.
What if I have a tan?
Tell your provider. Recent sun exposure affects planning, and this is one of the questions they will ask.
Can I still swim at the lake?
Between sessions, within whatever guidance your provider gives you on sun protection. This is precisely why autumn starts are easier — the guidance is much simpler to follow when you are not outdoors every weekend.
What areas can be treated?
Ask at consultation. Price scales with area, which is why the menu quotes a starting price.
Do I need to finish the whole course?
Spacing and completion are what make a course work. If life intervenes, talk to your provider rather than simply stopping — they can advise on picking it back up.
