Hendersonville is well served for public green space, and the parks are genuinely different from one another. Here is which one to go to and why.

Sanders Ferry Park

513 Sanders Ferry Road. Around 70 acres on the shore of Old Hickory Lake.

What is there:

  • An 18-hole disc golf course
  • An ADA-compliant fishing pier
  • A boat ramp
  • A basketball court
  • A model airplane field
  • Walking trails, picnic areas and playgrounds

Go here if you want the lake. It is the most direct public access to the water in town, and the disc golf course is the standout feature — a full 18 holes is not a given in a municipal park.

Drakes Creek Park

120 E. Main Street and 131 Conway Twitty Lane.

What is there:

  • Athletic fields and a full athletic complex
  • Walking tracks
  • Playgrounds
  • Picnic tables and grills
  • Fishing

Go here if you have children, or if you are meeting people. This is the community park — it hosts free outdoor concerts and festivals through the year, and it is the home of the annual tree lighting and the Christmas parade.

Memorial Park and Veterans Park

Both add to the town's network of fields, playgrounds and shoreline lookouts. Smaller and quieter than the two above, which on a busy Saturday is precisely the appeal.

Practical notes

Hours and facility availability change seasonally, and fields get booked for organised sport. The City of Hendersonville publishes current details for each park — worth a look before you drive over, particularly if you are counting on a specific facility.

Why an aesthetics practice is writing about parks

Because we are on Stadium Drive and these are our neighbours' parks as much as anyone's. Also, genuinely: getting outside is better for most people than most things we sell, and we would rather say so.
